Designing and Optimization of Stand-alone Hybrid Renewable Energy System for Rural Areas of Punjab, Pakistan

2018 · International Journal of Renewable Energy Research

Summary. Researchers designed a hybrid renewable energy system combining micro-hydro, solar, wind, and diesel generation to electrify remote areas in Punjab, Pakistan. Using HOMER optimization software, they evaluated three strategies for a canal-based site. A pure renewable approach with water management proved most cost-effective, achieving lower net present costs and energy costs with faster payback than diesel-hybrid systems, making it the most feasible option for rural electrification.
