Summary. This study examines rural financial services across five northwestern Chinese provinces using 2024 data. The researchers find that financial service innovation—measured through penetration, usage, coverage, and innovation capacity—significantly drives rural economic development. Regions with stronger financial institutions and better service infrastructure experience greater economic growth, which in turn stimulates further financial development. The promotion effect varies by rural industry type.
