Evaluating the Real-World Performance of 5G Fixed Wireless Broadband in Rural Areas
Summary. This paper evaluates two 5G technologies for delivering broadband to rural UK communities. TV White Space (TVWS) technology proved reliable for stable broadband service in rural areas, while millimetre wave (mmWave) solutions, despite offering high speeds, suffered from rain interference and line-of-sight limitations that made them unsuitable for irregular terrain. TVWS emerged as the more practical option for rural deployment.
