Comparative Analysis of Conventional Single and Hybrid Photovoltaic Solar Energy System for Off-Grid Rural Electrification

Summary. This paper compares six off-grid electrification systems for a rural Nigerian community using HOMER Pro simulation software. The analysis evaluates diesel generators, solar photovoltaic systems, and hybrid combinations based on cost, emissions, and energy production. Pure solar PV emerges as the lowest-cost option while hybrid diesel-PV systems produce the most energy. Solar and solar-battery systems eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, offering clean, reliable power for rural economic development.
