Techno-Economic and Environmental Analysis of an Off-grid Hybrid Renewable Energy System for Rural Electrification

P. I. Adeleru, Isaiah G. Adebayo · 2024

Summary. This paper analyzes hybrid renewable energy systems for rural electrification in Nigeria, comparing biogas/pumped hydro/battery, solar/pumped hydro/battery, and combined configurations. Using optimization algorithms, the researchers sized systems for a village and evaluated them by cost, reliability, and emissions. The hybrid solar-biogas-pumped hydro-battery system achieved the lowest energy costs and carbon emissions while maintaining high power reliability.
