Leveraging Nigerian Communications Satellite (Nigcomsat) For Broadband Penetration in Rural and Remote Areas of Nigeria Using Ka Band
Summary. This study examines using Nigeria's NIGCOMSAT-1R satellite with Ka-band technology to deliver broadband internet to rural areas. Researchers surveyed 230 rural respondents and assessed satellite equipment. They found that while 90% have internet access, over half rate it unreliable and 80% find it expensive. Communities strongly support satellite broadband (96.5% positive), but adoption remains low due to equipment costs, lack of local service providers, and power issues. The research confirms satellite internet is technically viable and recommends subsidies, solar power solutions, digital training, and public-private partnerships to expand rural connectivity.
