Summary. Rural entrepreneurship in South Africa faces significant obstacles from risk factors and weak social capital elements. The study surveyed 282 rural business owners and found that risk substantially hampers entrepreneurial activities, while certain social capital elements significantly influence business success. The research recommends strengthening social capital through education programs, government support, and improved rural infrastructure including transportation and communication systems.
