Operationalizing the agricultural innovation system concept in a developing country context – examining the case of the MiDA programme in Ghana

Summary. Ghana's MiDA agricultural programme embedded Agricultural Innovation Systems thinking into its design and implementation. The approach succeeded where stakeholders collaborated but failed where actors worked independently, reverting to top-down extension methods. The study finds that future agricultural programmes must integrate farmers and stakeholders as equal partners in design and implementation, addressing challenges around trust, leadership, and entrepreneurship to enable genuine innovation.
