Adoption of ICT innovations in the agriculture sector in Africa: a review of the literature
Summary. African agriculture depends on ICT innovations to boost productivity and food security, with 70% of the population relying on farming. A review of 23 studies from 2010–2019 found that text and voice-based mobile services dominate, alongside radio for farmer outreach and computers for researchers. Despite mobile services' potential to deliver timely agricultural information, adoption remains limited by inadequate technological infrastructure, weak ICT policies, and farmers' low digital skills.
