The Digital Divide and Gender Disparity: A Study of Rural Students in the Republic ofMoldova

Summary. A study of 1,526 rural middle school students in Moldova found that gender gaps in digital skills are narrowing. Boys and girls showed equal competence in navigation, communication, and problem-solving. However, girls significantly outperformed boys in digital content creation and online safety, with boys showing concerning vulnerabilities to digital threats. The research reveals a complex, evolving picture of gender and digital inequality in rural Moldova.
