Evaluating the Effects of Mobility-as-a-Service Platform in Increasing Equity and Transit Ridership in Rural Areas
Summary. A smartphone-based Mobility-as-a-Service app deployed across 13 rural Minnesota counties increased transit ridership by 4.2% over six months compared to 0.2% in control areas. The app improved equity by distributing trip requests more evenly and expanding access for non-English speakers. Same-day booking requests increased, reducing reliance on calling transit agencies during business hours.
