Summary. This study compares the economic viability of renewable energy systems versus diesel generators for rural electrification in Saudi Arabia. Analyzing a real power station expansion, researchers calculated levelized costs of energy for wind, solar, hybrid, and diesel options under different ownership structures. Wind energy emerged as the most cost-effective choice, followed by diesel generators, hybrid systems, and solar. Capital costs drove the economic outcomes more than operating expenses.
