Facilitating the Production of Place-Based Knowledge for Participatory Community Development in Rural Pennsylvania
Summary. This case study examines how three rural Pennsylvania communities—Selinsgrove, Sunbury, and Danville—generated local knowledge through participatory planning processes to guide community revitalization. The research shows how inclusive engagement of adults and children in identifying local assets and priorities produces place-sensitive development outcomes. The findings demonstrate that community-generated knowledge improves development practice by grounding decisions in local context and values.
