Dealing with heterogeneity and complexity in the analysis of the willingness to invest in community renewable energy in rural areas

Summary. This study examines why rural residents invest in community renewable energy projects, specifically bioenergy villages. Using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis on survey data, the researchers identify multiple combinations of sociodemographic, psychological, and financial factors that influence investment decisions. The findings show that different configurations of these factors drive investment, providing policymakers and project promoters with insights for designing effective rural renewable energy strategies.
