Microfinance and rural non-farm employment in developing countries
Summary. Microfinance institutions have expanded credit access in developing countries, enabling rural households to diversify income through non-farm employment. However, further growth requires more flexible credit contracts, lower borrowing costs, and complementary support like skills training.
