Impact of microfinance on income generation: Evidence from a rural community‐driven development programme in Myanmar
Summary. A community-driven microfinance programme in Myanmar increased rural households' access to credit for productive purposes, partially replacing formal bank loans and informal borrowing from relatives and friends. Treated households increased agricultural harvesting, yields, and sales, resulting in higher seasonal income. The findings demonstrate that microfinance targeting productive investment effectively improves rural household income in developing economies.
