Agricultural Productivity and Poverty Alleviation: What Role for Technological Innovation

Summary. Agricultural productivity significantly reduces poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa, with technological innovation playing a crucial role. The study analyzed 32 SSA countries from 1990-2011 and found that technological innovation directly lowers poverty and indirectly reduces it by boosting agricultural productivity and broader economic growth. Agriculture's poverty-reduction impact depends on sector growth, poor people's participation, and agriculture's economic share.
