The Digital Divide and the Elderly: How Urban and Rural Realities Shape Well-Being and Social Inclusion in the Sardinian Context

Summary. Rural elderly people in Sardinia have significantly lower access to and use of digital tools compared to urban elderly, creating a digital divide that threatens social inclusion and well-being. Psychological and cognitive well-being predict digital use differently in rural versus urban areas. The study demonstrates that digital inequality persists even in developed countries, particularly affecting older populations, and calls for targeted interventions to improve rural digitalization and reduce exclusion.
