Do low-income households inevitably benefit more from microfinance participation? Evidence from rural China

Summary. Microfinance participation significantly increases agricultural income for low-income rural households in China. However, the study reveals a paradox: while poor households benefit from microfinance access, it simultaneously widens the agricultural income gap between rich and poor households. The research uses household-level data and econometric methods to account for selection bias and measure both individual gains and distributional effects.
