Cultural and communicative pathways in grassroots science and innovation: field research learnings from under-resourced rural India

Uttaran Dutta · 2026 · Journal of Science Communication

Summary. This study examines how grassroots innovation emerges in under-resourced rural India through culturally grounded science communication practices. Working with youth in underserved communities, the research shows that informal settings foster locally relevant solutions despite linguistic diversity, trust gaps, and infrastructure limits. The work rejects top-down expert models and advocates instead for community-centered, dialogic approaches that integrate Indigenous methodologies and position marginalized voices as sources of knowledge.
