Governance, institutions and innovation in rural territories: The case of Coruche innovation network

Maria de Fátima Ferreiro, Cristina Sousa · 2018 · Regional Science Policy & Practice

Summary. This study examines how governance structures and institutions shape innovation in Coruche, Portugal, a rural region centered on cork production. Using network analysis, the researchers map interactions among cork companies, forest producers, associations, and public agencies across multiple territorial scales. They find that local governance involves both traditional actors and a multinational enterprise, whose territorial engagement influences employment and collaboration in cork-related activities.
