The Long‐term Socioeconomic Impacts of Renewable Energy Deployment: Lessons From Case Studies in European Rural Regions

Summary. Renewable energy installations in European rural regions generate long-term economic growth, employment, and population recovery. The authors built a database tracking wind and solar capacity across European regions over decades, then used synthetic control methods to measure socioeconomic impacts. Results show both within-region and between-region effects from renewable energy deployment in rural areas.
