Microfinance and Household Poverty Reduction: Empirical Evidence from Rural Pakistan
Summary. Microfinance access in rural Pakistan reduces household poverty, according to analysis of 1,132 households. Borrowers showed improvements across multiple indicators: higher spending on healthcare and clothing, increased household income, and better housing conditions including water supply and roof and wall quality. The study controlled for selection bias using propensity score matching.
