Place-Based Endowments in the Periphery: Changing the Dynamics of Rural Planning

Summary. Peripheral Canadian communities generate wealth through natural resources, but this wealth flows to urban centres, worsened by globalized finance. Canadian philanthropic organizations are implementing place-based collective endowments to re-embed finance locally, allowing communities to control investment and spending decisions. This research examines how these endowments influence rural development across Canada.
