Disparities in Technology and Broadband Internet Access Across Rurality

Summary. Rural school districts in Washington State have significantly lower technology and broadband access than urban districts. Only 80% of rural students had adequate internet-enabled devices for online learning, compared to 90% in urban areas. Rural youth face greater barriers including geographic isolation, affordability, and reliance on smartphones. These disparities limit access to telehealth and remote education in rural communities.
