A review on enhancing higher education access for rural students through university high-impact community engagement programs in Malaysia

Summary. Rural students in Malaysia apply to higher education at lower rates due to limited access to facilities, technology, and experienced teachers, worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. High-Impact Community Engagement programs and Educational Knowledge Transfer Programs address these gaps through mentorship, workshops, industry partnerships, digital resources, and teacher training. The research finds that well-implemented community engagement significantly increases higher education applications and academic performance among rural students.
