Networks for Innovation – But What Networks and What Innovation?

Jens Hemphälä, Mats Magnusson · 2012 · Creativity and Innovation Management

Using data from a service industry, the authors find that network characteristics significantly predict innovation outcomes, but their effects differ dramatically depending on whether innovation is incremental (implementing employee ideas) or radical (developing new services). The paper argues researchers must use precise, fine-grained measures of both networks and innovation types rather than treating them as generic concepts.
