Optimized Off-grid Solar PV System with Energy Storage for Rural Residence: Techno-economic Analysis in San Francisco de Yojoa, Cortés.

Summary. This paper evaluates an off-grid solar photovoltaic system designed for a rural house in Honduras, where electrification coverage remains low at 74.41%. Using HOMER Pro optimization, the authors determined that a 6.44 kWp system with 12-16 hour autonomy produces electricity at $0.179/kWh, cheaper than the national grid rate of $0.23/kWh. The initial investment of $15,387.92 pays back within 8 years and 5 months, demonstrating economic viability for rural electrification.
