Delivery of on-demand video services in rural areas via IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless access networks
Summary. This simulation study evaluates IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless technology for delivering on-demand video to rural areas. The researchers found that IEEE 802.16 networks can support up to 9-10 simultaneous users streaming video at typical cinematic quality. They demonstrated that scalable video coding and adaptive congestion control improve performance in rural broadband deployments.
