Marcus Holgersson, Ove Granstrand, Marcel Bogers · 2017 · Long Range Planning

The authors show that firms strategically manage IP through complementary and substitute appropriability regimes, balancing openness and protection across different technologies and actors. The findings demonstrate that competitive advantage depends on understanding the broader ecosystem context, not just individual IP strategies or assets.
