Summary. Researchers designed and tested a low-cost, portable solar still for off-grid freshwater production in rural areas. Testing showed a 40-degree dome angle performed best, producing 42.7% desalination yield. Adding thermal insulation significantly improved output to 2.4 liters per day per square meter. The system costs approximately 3,500 Philippine pesos and operates at 0.86–2.57 pesos per liter over 5–10 years, making it practical for remote and disaster-prone communities.
