Labour Market Participation of Women in Rural Bangladesh: The Role of Microfinance
Summary. Microfinance in rural Bangladesh increases labour market participation differently for men and women. While microfinance access helps smooth seasonal employment through self-employment activities, men's off-farm participation rises significantly more than women's, despite credit programmes targeting women. The benefits of microfinance for labour supply prove asymmetrical by gender and occupation type.
