Role of Islamic microfinance in women’s empowerment: evidence from Rural Development Scheme of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited

Summary. Islamic microfinance services provided by Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited significantly empowered rural women in Bangladesh. The services shifted families from agriculture to retail businesses, increased household income and savings, improved living standards, and enhanced economic and socio-cultural empowerment. However, increased familial authority showed no significant effect on overall empowerment, suggesting potential tensions between different dimensions of women's empowerment.
