Unlocking the potential of rural informal entrepreneurship for poverty reduction in Bangladesh: A sustainable livelihoods perspective
Summary. Rural informal entrepreneurs in Bangladesh, who comprise 75% of the workforce, face significant livelihood challenges. Only 46% report positive views on key livelihood indicators. Social capital is their strongest asset at 62%, while physical capital remains critically weak at 34%. Most entrepreneurs express limited optimism about their circumstances, with only half viewing 12 of 20 measured indicators positively. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to strengthen rural entrepreneurship and reduce poverty.
