Marcelo Rodrigues Barbosa Júnior, Regimar Garcia dos Santos, Lucas de Azevedo Sales, Luan Pereira de Oliveira · 2024 · Plants

Summary. Agricultural robots are transforming specialty crop production by automating labor-intensive tasks like harvesting, spraying, and pruning while reducing inputs such as labor, fertilizer, and pesticides. This review of 907 papers from 1988–2024 shows that interest in agricultural robots for specialty crops has surged over the past decade, driven by advances in computer vision. Harvesting robots dominate current applications, while robots for spraying, pruning, weed control, and pollination represent emerging opportunities for future development.
