Endoscopic treatment of hydrocephalus with minimal resources: Resource utilization and indigenous innovation in developing countries like India
Summary. Indian neurosurgeons successfully treated hydrocephalus using endoscopic surgery in resource-limited public hospitals by designing indigenous equipment and coordinating across departments. They adapted available tools from anesthesia and used custom-made steel sheaths to perform 34 procedures with minimal specialized resources, achieving comparable outcomes to standard approaches and demonstrating that innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration can overcome equipment scarcity.
