The importance of proximity dimensions in agricultural knowledge and innovation systems: The case of banana disease management in Rwanda

This study examines how different types of proximity—geographical, cognitive, and social—influence knowledge sharing among banana farmers in Rwanda, particularly regarding disease management. The researchers found that geographical proximity matters more in larger villages, while cognitive and social proximity dominate in smaller communities. The findings suggest that effective agricultural interventions must account for community size and leverage informal social networks to strengthen knowledge exchange and rural resilience.
