Rural women entrepreneurship: when femininity compensates for institutional hurdles

Summary. Rural women entrepreneurs in Iran leverage cultural femininity values to overcome weak institutional support and develop business opportunities. Through interviews with 15 rural women entrepreneurs, the study shows that when government institutions fail to support women's entrepreneurship, feminine cultural norms actually facilitate opportunity creation and business development. The research connects cultural values to institutional gaps and offers practical guidance for policymakers seeking to strengthen rural women's entrepreneurship.
