Conservation Tillage and Cropping Innovation: Constructing the New Culture of Agriculture

Doug Karlen, Frank Clearfield, Peter Nowak · 2001 · Journal of Soil and Water Conservation

Summary. This book examines how no-tillage farming technology spread among farmers through social networks and action-learning groups. The authors show that successful conservation tillage systems depend on farmer management and personal motivation to change. They analyze how deeply entrenched plowing culture was in both farming communities and broader U.S. and Australian societies, and how farmers overcame this cultural resistance through innovation networks.
