Indigenous Knowledge and Practices in Agriculture under the Purview of Folklore: An Intensive Study among the Khasi Community, Meghalaya
Summary. The Khasi community in Meghalaya preserves agricultural knowledge through folklore, oral traditions, and rituals spanning centuries. This ethnographic study documents how traditional practices like shifting cultivation, organic farming, and sacred grove management address modern environmental challenges. The research shows indigenous knowledge systems remain resilient and adaptable, yet face threats from modernization and policy neglect. The authors argue for integrating these practices into sustainable development frameworks to protect both cultural heritage and ecological sustainability.
