Digital transformation, well-being and shrinking communities: Narrowing the divides between urban and rural

Summary. Digital transformation in shrinking Finnish communities produces more positive than negative effects on resident well-being. While service concentration can reduce local offerings, digitalization enables previously unavailable services and creates new opportunities. Remote work and digital services attract new residents to rural areas, helping narrow the urban-rural divide and revitalizing shrinking communities.
