Summary. TRAILS 2.0 is an integrated STEM education program that partners engineering and science teachers to serve underrepresented rural students. The program combines situated learning theory with place-based education, leveraging local and indigenous knowledge to make STEM learning authentic and relevant. Preliminary findings show this approach helps rural students overcome barriers to pursuing STEM careers by connecting classroom content to their communities' history, nature, culture, and economy.
