Evaluation of Road Traffic Noise and Noise-exposed Population Change due to Demand Responsive Transit Bus in Rural Area

Jae Kwan Lee, Jisu Yoo, Chang-Gyun Roh, Jae‐Hong Park · 2024 · Transactions of the Korean Society for Noise and Vibration Engineering

Summary. Demand responsive transit buses introduced in a rural South Korean area reduce road traffic noise compared to conventional fixed-route buses. The study measured noise levels and modeled five DRT routes, finding noise reductions up to 3.3 dB(A) at measurement points and 4.6% of residents experiencing 1–3 dB(A) reductions. Strategic DRT planning improves environmental quality and community welfare in aging rural populations.
