Optimal Design of Standalone Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems with Biochar Production in Remote Rural Areas: A Case Study

Lanyu Li, Siming You, Xiaonan Wang · 2019 · Energy Procedia

Summary. Remote rural areas can efficiently generate power using local renewable resources instead of long-distance electricity transmission. This paper develops an optimization model for hybrid renewable energy systems combining solar, wind, and biomass. A case study in the Philippines shows an optimal configuration producing $940 daily profit while sequestering 3,339 kg CO2 equivalent per day, demonstrating both economic and environmental benefits for agriculture-based rural communities.
