Digital Finance Development and the Usageof Low-Carbon Farm Technology:Evidence from Rural China
Summary. Digital payment systems significantly increase farmers' adoption of low-carbon agricultural technologies in rural China. The study finds that digital payments work through three mechanisms: they improve access to agricultural machinery and increase farm income, while also strengthening environmental awareness. These effects outweigh reduced non-farm employment opportunities. Digital finance thus serves as an effective tool for spreading advanced, sustainable farming practices and improving soil health.
