The Impact of Digital Finance Development on Urban-Rural Income Gap——Mechanism Analysis Based on the Availability and Inclusiveness of Financial Services

Summary. Digital finance development significantly reduces the urban-rural income gap in China. The study analyzes provincial data from 2011 to 2022 and finds that increased digital finance narrows income inequality through two mechanisms: improved accessibility and greater inclusiveness of financial services. Both pathways matter, though accessibility has slightly stronger effects. The impact is strongest in central and western regions, suggesting regional variation in how digital finance benefits rural populations.
