Binsheng Liu, Xiaohui Zhang, Junfeng Tian, Ruimin Cao, Xinzhang Sun, Bin Xue · 2023 · Regional Sustainability

Summary. This case study of China's Zaozhuang Innovation Demonstration Zone examines how innovation drives rural sustainable development. Between 2016 and 2020, economic and social sustainability grew strongly, but ecological sustainability declined. The authors identify imbalances across sustainability dimensions and propose a multi-dimensional pathway combining policy, technology, projects, and institutions to strengthen innovation's role in rural development.
