A Chance-Constrainted Multi-Stage Planning Method for Rural Microgrids Considering Energy Self-Sustained Ability Under Extreme Off-Grid Scenarios
Summary. This paper develops a planning method for rural microgrids to improve energy independence during extreme power outages. The approach uses machine learning to forecast rural electricity demand and generate realistic wind and solar scenarios. A multi-stage optimization model then determines the best microgrid design to reliably supply power even under worst-case conditions. Testing on Chinese rural data confirms the method works.
