Exploring the Influence of Village Social Capital and Rural Development on Farmers’ Entrepreneurial Decision-Making: Unveiling the Path to Local Entrepreneurship

Summary. Village social capital significantly influences farmers' decisions to start businesses in rural China. Social trust has the strongest effect, increasing entrepreneurial odds by 16.28%, while social networks and participation boost odds by 3.96% and 5.42% respectively. Rural harmony and economic development partially explain how social capital drives entrepreneurship. The findings show that strengthening village social capital creates conditions for rural business formation.
