Renewable Energy Solution for Electricity Access in Rural South Africa
Summary. South Africa's rural electrification lags far behind urban areas, limiting economic and social development. This paper designs a renewable energy microgrid for Jozini municipality using solar, wind, biomass, and hydro sources. The proposed system delivers electricity at one-third the cost of the national grid while producing zero carbon emissions, compared to the grid's 0.99 kg CO2 per kilowatt-hour.
